The city of Helsinki, capital of Finland, continues its determined efforts to automate financial management in line with the city strategy by implementing AI for purchase invoice automation. After the public tender for AI solutions, Snowfox.AI was selected as the partner. The collaboration aims to significantly increase purchase invoice automation and streamline the invoice processing workflow.
The invoice processing workflow in the City of Helsinki is a time-consuming manual process that requires a substantial workforce both in the Financial Management Service and in the city's departments and enterprises.
"Purchase invoice process involves a lot of manual accounting work and routing invoices for the approval flow. To free up experts' time from routine work, the City of Helsinki is leveraging new technologies. The AI solution provided by Snowfox.AI offers the opportunity to automate invoice processing and reduce human errors," describes Miikka Savolainen, the operational director at Snowfox.AI.
The City of Helsinki receives over 900,000 purchase invoices annually, with the majority being coded and routed for approval flow manually. AI can be used for processing those invoices for which traditional rule-based automation capabilities are not suitable. It is expected to increase the automation to a level of 80-90%.
"With this partnership, the City of Helsinki aims to achieve several benefits. Through automated invoice processing, the process speeds up, the number of errors decreases, and resources are freed up for more strategic work. The AI solution suggests accounting and approval workflows for invoices, making invoice processing easier for the city's departments and enterprises," says Maria Hublin-Riikonen, Development Manager, Financial Management Service, City of Helsinki.
