Eliminating Manual Invoice Processing

Lumon receives tens of thousands of invoices annually. Prior to adopting AI, Lumon had implemented order matching for purchase order invoices and established agreements for matching static recurring invoices. However, these measures still left a significant amount of manual work in invoice accounting, as the proportion of automatically accounted invoices was relatively low compared to the total invoice volume.

Embracing AI-Powered Invoice Automation

Lumon recognized the need to reduce manual labor in the invoice processing workflow. Having already utilized traditional rule-based methods, Lumon was seeking further automation advancements. In 2021, Lumon turned to Snowfox to explore the potential of AI in automating invoice processing.

Before making a purchasing decision, Lumon conducted an accuracy test of Snowfox’s AI on their invoice data. The test revealed the level of automation that Snowfox could achieve for Lumon’s invoices. Based on the accuracy test, Lumon concluded that integrating AI into their invoice process would bring about a significant leap in automation immediately upon implementation. This prompted Lumon to proceed with a pilot project to experience the added value of AI.

Smooth Implementation

The implementation of Snowfox was a smooth and straightforward project. Snowfox was integrated as an add-on to Lumon’s invoice processing system using existing interfaces.

Lumon initially deployed Snowfox for its Finnish companies and expanded the AI coverage to encompass all Lumon countries by the end of 2023. From Lumon’s perspective, expanding the AI to all countries was remarkably easy. The process involved training AI models using invoice data from other countries and ensuring the AI functioned accurately before connecting them to production. The ease of this process was a positive surprise for Lumon.

The AI is capable of accounting for the majority of invoices that were previously handled manually.
